How did Habitat For Humanity start?
Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as an economical Christian ministry in Americas,
Georgia under the leadership of Millard Fuller. Millard, his wife Linda, and a few
associates had a vision and their dreams had inspired Habitat volunteers and
staffs worldwide to build or renovate over 60,000 homes in 60 nations.
Throughout the world, affiliates work in partnership with the communities to make
safe affordable houses available to families in need.
How did the Pasadena Habitat For Humanity start?
In 1994 a group of concerned local citizens caught the Habitat sprit and
established Pasadena Habitat For Humanity (PHFH) as the local affiliate of Habitat
For Humanity International. PHFH strives to carry out the Habitat mission by
providing homeownership opportunities for the people of Pasadena. As with all
other Habitat affiliates in the United States, PHFH raises its own funding and
solicits its own volunteer corps. Habitat International operates solely as a
consultant and advisor for the U. S. national affiliates. Habitat teaches and
supports an approach that involves developing partnerships between donors,
labors, staff, new homeowners and other agencies that support community
revitalization.
